Philosophy & Purpose
Whitnall School District (WSD) believes that all students are capable of learning at high levels through a diverse range of learning styles and paces. We understand that students need differentiated learning activities, timely feedback, and an awareness and understanding of learning targets in order to meet these expectations.
WSD believes that the purposes of grading and reporting are to communicate evidence of learning, and to provide feedback specific to what a student knows and is able to do at any given point in time. Grades are used to communicate a valid representation of achievement toward learning targets, which are aligned to the district’s adopted state or national standards.
Grades are used by students, parents, teachers, administrators, and pupil service teams to communicate progress toward learning targets and measure skills. In addition, grades allow WSD educators to inform instruction, create differentiation, or develop and implement interventions.
