Nutrition Department Info
The Whitnall School Nutrition Department strives to provide a complete, nutritionally balanced and varied meal service for students at all levels. The district is a participant of the Federal Free and Reduced School Lunch Program and as such, conforms to the nutritional guidelines outlined by the Department of Public Instruction. All food and beverages offered within the district meet federal guidelines for calories, salt, sugar, and saturated fat content. Students participating in the federal program must choose a complete meal that includes a main entree, fruit/vegetable and milk. Students who choose to build a meal that does NOT follow these guidelines will be charged a la carte prices for their choices.
Program Payments
The Whitnall school lunch program requires payments be made to a single household account which is accessed electronically by students during lunch service. Money is distributed equally among patrons on the account unless noted otherwise. Elementary students are assigned a bar code which is scanned for purchase as the student goes through the lunch line. Middle and High school students will be required to enter their student ID number at the check-out.
*Milk purchased by itself (not part of a meal) is charged at $.45; the district does not participate in the federal milk program.
In addition, a la carte items such as cereal bars, baked chips, and bottled beverages are available to purchase only at the middle and high school levels. These items are not included as part of the federal free and reduced school lunch program.
Payments may be made to a household lunch account online via Infinite Campus or by sending cash or check payable to Whitnall Food Service to school with your child in an envelope labeled with the household name and account. Payments are processed at the high school so please allow 1 day for processing.
Households now have an option to automatically replenish lunch account via Infinite Campus. Choose the Payments tab to access this option.
Negative Account Balance Ramifications
A negative account balance means no a la carte or meal purchases at the elementary, middle and high school levels. No student will be denied a meal regardless of account balance.
Email notifications are sent to households with low lunch balances (under $10) and voicemails and text messages are sent to those households with negative lunch balances. Households are encouraged to contact the food service department at 414-525-8430 if a payment schedule needs to be established. The District reserves the right to refuse food service to delinquent accounts with balances exceeding a negative $50 and a collection agency may be retained to secure payment of delinquent account balances.
Daily, weekly and monthly transactions may be reviewed on Infinite Campus.
