Please go through the following symptom checklist with your student every day before sending them to school.  If your student has these symptoms (listed below), keep your student home and call your healthcare provider, as well as, the school attendance office.

Symptoms:

• Fever / chills / body aches (fever defined as > 100 degrees)

• Cough

• Shortness of breath / difficulty breathing

• Muscle pain

• Sore Throat

• New Loss of taste or smell

• Headache

• Nasal Congestion

• Nausea / vomiting

• Diarrhea

If a student has an exposure to a COVID-19 individual outside of Whitnall School District, the following will apply:

• Communicate exposure to District Nurse

• If a student is exposed outside of Whitnall School District, they should follow all guidelines from their local health department.

• If a member of the student or staff’s household is under quarantine, or waiting test results, the student or staff member may continue to attend/school work as long as they show no symptoms

• If a member of the student or staff’s household has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the student or staff member will be excluded from school/district programming for 14 days from the date the COVID-19 positive household member was medically recovered.

Yes. We continue to work on a re-entry plan with First Student Transportation Services but fully understand that physical distancing on school buses will be difficult to maintain. Therefore, we encourage families to consider alternative transportation modes, including family drop-off / pickup.

All students are required to wear face coverings on buses to reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19.

• Students will load the bus from back to front based on the order of stops, sit with siblings when possible and be assigned seats if needed.

• Students will need to ride their assigned bus and not get on other buses to go to someone else’s home.

• There will be no eating or drinking on the bus.

• Bus drivers will keep the windows open to increase airflow, when possible.

Students will need to have your mask on at all times in school except for eating and drinking in designated areas and mask breaks in designated areas. Wearing a mask means having the mask on tightly over your mouth and nose. There will be a progression of consequences for those not wearing masks.

Mask breaks will be allowed in specific locations. Specific guidelines on mask breaks will be coming later in a separate document.

• Students who ride the bus will be dropped off by Falcon Field and enter the building in the lower Door 15.

• Students who get a ride from their parents should utilize the parent drop off area at the front of the building.  Students MUST enter through door 1.

Prior to 7:30 AM students will report to the cafeteria, multi-purpose, and small gym until they are released.  To avoid the congregating of students in hallways, students will need to go directly to their locker to drop off their outerwear.  Students are then expected to report directly to their first period class to await the start of the school day.

We are encouraging students to take backpacks to class with all the necessary learning materials they will need throughout the day. Students will not be allowed to go to their lockers once the school day has started at 7:40 AM to eliminate hallway congestion. Students may go to their lockers at the end of the school day and should leave the building immediately after retrieving their belongings.

Students will go to their locker:

1. Upon entering the building to drop off their outerwear.  They will take their backpacks to class and be expected to have all of their academic materials with them.

2. Upon leaving the building to get any outerwear needed.

In classrooms, desks will face in the same direction and distance between desks will be maximized.  Class structures will at times allow for students to work in hallways, outdoors, common spaces, or large group spaces.  Non-student classroom furniture is minimized in classrooms and seating will be assigned.  Hand sanitizer will be readily available and students will apply it upon entry into the classroom.  Disinfectant spray will be applied regularly by staff to "high touch point" surfaces / objects.

To start class, teachers will be in the hallway by the classroom door to take attendance by having students scan school ID for attendance. When entering the classroom, students will use hand sanitizer mounted on the wall by the door. Students will then proceed to their assigned seat that has been appropriately physically distanced. 

During class, students may not leave their desk without the teacher's permission (blowing nose, going to the bathroom, lab setup etc…) 

At times the teacher lesson may allow for students to leave the room to work independently and use the hallway, common spaces, or outdoors to further socially distance.  Upon reentering the classroom students will use hand sanitizer mounted on the wall by the door.

At the end of class, students cannot line up at the door. They must wait at their desks until bell rings.

Physical Education:

• Students will not be utilizing the gym locker rooms. Therefore they will not be required to change for class except for footwear.  Students must have appropriate gym shoes for the class.  Equipment will be regularly sanitized and physical distancing guidelines will be followed when practicable.  Teachers will utilize outside areas as much as possible.

Art:

• Students will have individual kits to work from to minimize the sharing of materials.

Tech Ed:

• Students will have designated guidelines and roles for equipment usage to minimize touch points.

• Students will have individual kits to work from to minimize the sharing of materials.

Band:

• Modified/virtual band instruction (no instrument playing in school) will take place  in the classroom.  Small group percussion will still meet in person.  Any playing / practicing of instruments will take place at home.  This will be re-evaluated after the first 9 weeks.

Orchestra:

• Students will be appropriately spaced.

Choir:

• Students will be appropriately spaced and outdoor areas will be utilized when appropriate.

IT:

• Plexiglass dividers will be positioned in between computer workstations.

Science: 

• Kits for each class/student that are sanitized before each group uses them.

Classroom procedures for Falcon Time are the same as all other classes. To keep classes small and focused, Falcon Time signup will consist of the following steps. 

1. Teachers will sign up students on Friday during zero hour for the following week into set groups based on subject or need (Ex. Tuesday: AP Government Test help, Wednesday: US History Paper help Thursday: students failing etc….  

2. Students will have the option to change daily by 9AM the day of. Teachers will have a cap on the number of students in each class to keep numbers in class down. Students also have the option to sign up for a honors Falcon Time in the multipurpose room if they have good grades and no office referrals. 

3. If student still does not have a class on their schedule by 9AM, admin will place students.

No. Students may not eat or drink in class. Students will be able to eat and drink in specific mask break areas. Specific guidelines on mask breaks will be coming later in a separate document.

Stairwells in the high school have been designated as Up only and Down only. Students are expected to walk on the right hand side of the hallway and appropriately distance from other students as possible. In addition, students are expected not to congregate or stand in the hallway and move directly from class to class during passing time.

No. We will encourage students not to use the bathroom during passing times to eliminate hallway congestion. Bathroom capacity will be posted on the entrance to the bathroom. Doors will be propped open to minimize contact points. If a student needs to use the bathroom during instructional time, teachers will maintain a student sign out sheet. All students must use hand sanitizer when entering back into the classroom. 

High school students will utilize one of three cafeteria spaces. Students in grade 9 will use the small gym, grade 10 the multi-purpose space, and grades 11 and 12 the cafeteria. Students will go to the assigned cafeteria space and be dismissed table by table to enter the kitchen for hot lunch or al-a-cart purchases. The lunch period has been extended to 45 minutes to accommodate this pacing and flow. Hand sanitation stations will be located throughout the cafeteria, as well as, spacing markers for those waiting in the hot lunch line.

• Students who ride the bus will exit door 15 and are expected to immediately board their bus.

• Students who get picked by a parent / guardian will exit via door 1 by main office. Student’s should wait outside and physically distance themselves from students until ride arrives. 

• Students who walk home will exit other school doors appropriate to their walk home.
