Reboot the laptop - All electronic devices (phones, laptops, tablets, etc) need to go through the process of a complete shut down on a regular basis. If your laptop is not functioning properly, completely power down your laptop and restart. To help maintain the performance of your laptop, power down your laptop at nightly and restart in the morning.
Check for Updates - Electronic devices regularly receive updates to their apps and operating systems. System updates are If your laptop is not functioning properly and a shut down did not solve the issue check for any updates.
- Navigate to your Chromebook Settings
- In the list of option on the left, select 'About Chrome'
- Click 'Check for Updates' or 'Relaunch' if updates have already installed
- Chrome will install the update and relaunch the browser (Open tabs will be reloaded)
After installing updates, a reboot of your laptop is recommended.
Clear Browsing Data - students are not permitted to clear their Chrome browsing history but are permitted to clear Cookies and Site Data as well as Cached images and downloaded files. Regularly clearing out this information can help when websites and website functions are not working properly. Please note, clearing the Cache and Cookies will NOT clear browsing history. All student history is saved in Go Guardian and cannot be deleted.
Fully Charge the Laptop - the helpdesk regularly works with students whose laptops will not turn on only learn that the laptop battery is at 0%. Charge your laptop nightly so that it is fully charged for the next day. When plugging in the laptop to charge, check that it is properly connected to a power source and the charging light is light (usually an amber color light).
