Core Academics: 6th Grade - 7th Grade - 8th Grade
At each grade level, there are FOUR CORE BLOCKS that include Language Arts (an integration of the traditional Language Arts and Reading), Math, Science, and Social Studies. In addition, reading is further integrated into the other core subjects areas so that students become successful at reading all types of material and text. This is an important strategy for strenthening student reading abilities as reading science is much different than reading literature. Another strategy used across the curricular CORE content areas is "writing across the curriculum" which is assessed with the research-based tool called 6 Traits. Writing well in the different subject areas is equally as important as reading well in all subjects; thus, WMS is stressing this skill in all of its CORE classes as well.
