6th Grade

The FACE curriculum has a focus on traditional foods and nutrition, with enhancements from the Paxton Patterson modules.  Paxton Patterson modules include personal economics, family and community, food science, nutrition, dietetic research, health and fitness, human body related to healthy decisions and home furnishing, banking, comparative buying, credit cycle and consumer protection.  Students have the opportunity of completing some modules each year in grades 6 and 7, and as an elective in the 8th grade FACE elective.

7th Grade

FACE 7 will cover topics dealing with adolescent growth and change, food and nutrition, and healthy snacking.  Students will receive hands-on experience in the preparation of nutritious snacks.  Students will also be given the opportunity to participate in the "Growing Up Ready" modules and explore real life topics such as Math in the Kitchen, Banking Services, Comparative Buying, Science in the Kitchen, Family Education and Community Support Services.  The "Growing Up Ready" program uses an interactive CD-Rom which requires students to apply skills, use appropriate tools, and perform a variety of hands-on problem solving activities.  Students will be asked to use the internet for research and will also be required to complete a variety of reading and writing assignments that will help prepare them for their future.

8th Grade

FACE 8 will include an extensive unit on foods and nutrition and how it relates to the teenager's diet.  Major emphasis will be placed on the daily nutritional requirements of an individual and cover topics such as "over eating", "under eating", calorie intake, sports nutrition, and health problems related to poor eating.  Small groups of students will work together to prepare foods related to these topics.  Students will also be given the opportunity to participate in the "Growing Up Ready" modules and explore real life topics such as Math in the Kitchen, Banking Services, Comparative Buying, Science in the Kitchen, Family Education and Community Support Services.  The "Growing Up Ready" program uses an interactive CD-ROM which requires students to apply skill, use appropriate tools, and perform a variety of hands-on problem solving activities.  Students will be asked to use the internet for research and will also be required to complete a variety of reading and writing assignments that will help prepare them for their future.
