What are Honors Courses?
Honors courses are more advanced sections or sequences of courses. These sections or sequences are available in Math, Science and English. To qualify for the honors sequences in 9th grade, the teachers and guidance counselor will consider these factors: (1) Recommendations from 8th grade teachers (2) Related achievement test scores from Middle School (3) Related WKCE test scores from 8th grade.

What is Advanced Placement?
Advanced Placement (AP) classes are designed to provide you with an advanced level educational experience in a subject area. Students spend most of the year completing requirements of the AP curriculum. The classes also prepare you to take the national Advanced Placement exams, which are optional. If you score well on the exams, you can earn college credit that is accepted at many colleges and universities.

What are AP Exams?
AP exams are 3-4 hour exams that are given during a two-week period in May. You must sign up for the exams through your AP teacher. The cost for each exam this year is $82.00. The check should be made out to Whitnall School District, and only one check is needed, even if there are multiple exams. The fee can be reduced for students with financial need who qualify for the reduced lunch program to $52. Talk to your AP teacher ASAP if you are interested in the fee reduction (based on need). The above information is for the 2004-05 school year.

Check with the college or university you are planning to attend to see if they accept AP credit.

If a student changes their mind about taking the test after we have ordered it, they may receive a refund of $69.00 if we receive a letter written by the student's parent or guardian stating the reason for not taking the test. (WSD is charged $13.00 for the unused test). This request for a refund must be made no later than 2 weeks after the scheduled test. NO REFUNDS will be given after that time. The letter should be addressed to Mrs. Habanek, Whitnall School District, 5000 S. 116th St., Greenfield, WI 53228.
