National Honor Society (NHS)

Advisors:    TBA

Through NHS chapter service activities, members maintain and extend the qualities that won them selection.  Membership is both an honor and an obligation.

The idea that one has an obligation to use one’s talents, skills, and knowledge for the betterment of others is the cornerstone of Society projects and activities.  The local chapter provides the framework in which selected high school students render special service to the school and community.  Working together as a group, the chapter multiplies the benefits of its services, but the Society also enables every individual to work in a unique way for the enhancement of the community.

For initial consideration, a student must have been enrolled in WHS for at least one semester and have a cumulative grade point of 3.5 on a grade-weighted scale.  At the beginning of his/her junior or senior year, the student will be invited to apply for membership.  Application materials including a completed survey about school/community activities must be submitted by the student to be considered an applicant.

After initial consideration, a student is rated by the high school staff on leadership, character, and service, required to receive at least 7 responses in each category, required to earn a minimum of 42 points to continue, and voted on by a faculty committee.

Membership is open to Juniors and Seniors.

NHS meets the 4th Wednesday of every month.
