T4 (Talk'in about Truth with Trainer Troy) 12-22-09

I recently picked up a book called Life of Wahsington.  It is a biography of George Wahsington our first president.  It was originally written in 1842.  It has really amazed me how our country was founded by people who had a very strong Christian Faith.  One really neat thing that surprised me was during the revolutionary war against the british that the american congress would meet.  One man asked the question how do you know who George Washington is during these meetings.  The reply was well when congress prays he is the one who kneels down before God.  Unfortunately we do not often hear the stories of the faith in the God of the Bible exercised in our founding fathers.  Though George Washington was a very humble man of Faith in the one ad only God of the Bible.  Though when you think about the blood and sweat of people who truly felt that the fight for an independent nation in which you could worship God freely was worth dying for, it reminds you the blessing we have living in this country Today.  It also reminds me of how imporant it is to ask God to show me how to grow in my faith as a christian.

Here is a quote from the book Life of Washington Page 50 "The first of June, the day on which those laws were to commence was appointed by the legislatures of the different provinces, as one of fasting, humiliation, and prayer in which the people would attend their places of worship, and unite in asking the support and direction of God, in that time of public difficulty.  One of the titles given to God is, "Thou that hearest prayer;" and our devine Redeemer has said, " If you abide in me, and my words ab ide in you , ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you;" and in that beautiful parable of the Pharisee and the Publican, he has set before us an example of the kind of prayer that would be acceptable to God.  No doubt many pious American hearts offered such a prayer, with humiity and faith and their prayers were granted; for they never would have suceeded in defending their rights, unless the mighty hand of God had upheld and guided them.  And those who bore the trials of that lond and painful contest, proved that love to God, and reliance on his goodness and power, were the best principles of freedom, and led to the noblest sacrifices for their country.  They began with prayer and ended in victory and thanksgiving."

When you read something like this you can see that he (God) was the focal point of their lives.  There was not a question of if this was a Christian nation.  They had left England to seek religious freedom and on Christopher Columbus's Promptings from God to sail to find this new land.  Now they were fighting England first for representation in Government as a colony of England, then later for independence upon the clear leading by God.  It was clear God had his hand on them and George Washington and many other Americans who had a strong Christian Faith were were humbly seeking God to ask for his hand to allow these colonies which later became states  to beat a world superpower at the time.   Some people say that the founding fathers did not have faith or that they were deists, which meant they believed in a God, but after reading this I can see that they believed in and followed the God of the Bible!

It is something all of us can remember.  If God is for us who can be against us.  I know this has encouraged me to ask God "How can you use me, show me how to be obedient to you, I want you to do your will through me."  I hope you will ask this as well!

Well that is my book report:  I would definitely recommend getting this book, or give it to your favorite history teacher.  I am sure they would really enjoy it!  Feel free to shoot me your comments on this, I would love to hear what you think at  TroyGauger@hotmail.com

"You have 2 choices when you face tough things in your life Get Bitter or Get Better, getting angy and acting out will not fix it, seeking the source who is the answer Jesus will help you get better!" Trainer Troy

Romans 5:3-5 (New International Version)3Not only so, but we[a] also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
