2009 Season

The 2009 season will begin immediately following football season.  Please see "meet schedule" for competition dates.

Arrowhead Meet: December 10th

Our regions first meet.  Whitnall placed 1st in five out of 12 weight classes, took many second and third places.  The varsity team took first and the JV took third.  All first time lifters made it through the meet, no one was diqualified.  We came away from the meet with 10 lifters that qualified for the State Meet.  Hats off to Ryan Lepkowski who not only won his 132lb. JV class, he was also awarded JV's Best Lifter trophy.

South Milwaukee Meet: January 24th

Second meet of the season.  Once again Whitnall placed first in team and had five individule first place finishers.  This was also the first meet in Whitnall Powerlifting history to have girls competing for the school.  Bobby Horcos placed third, Sam Mannisto placed fifth, and Katie Thomas, who had a rough go of it in the squat, finished the meet with a strong showing in the bench and dead.

Greendale/Whitnall Meet: February 14th

The third and final regional meet of the season.  Whitnall has completed a perfect team season, 3 for 3.  We have won all of our regional meets.  This meet  ended with eight, first places for the men and Katie Thomas won her weight class in the women's division.  She also has qualified for the State Championships.  Which gives her another first for our girls; first girl to ever qualify for State.

Regional season overview:

This year started out with many new faces, and alot more lifters.  We were not sure how our season would pan out.  However, after the Arrowhead meet we knew we had a strong team.  We will see how we fair at the State Championships.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS:

We went into State with big hopes.  We came out of State as the division 2 STATE CHAMPIONS.  All the lifters out-performed themselves.  As a team we scored 61 points.  It was a perfect ending to an undefeated season.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS:

As a JV team we took 4 lifters.  We finished with three 2nd places, one first place, and the JV team took 3rd overall.  Nathan Marshall became a two time JV National Champion, and set a National squat record.  The varsity lifters did well, with Nick Vlahos placing 4th, becoming the first Whitnall lifter to place at a National level in the varsity class.
