| All the kids were so excited to meet Author Barbara Joosse
and some even had their books signed!
The PTO Artists and Author in Residence Program and a
generous grant from the Whitnall Foundation helped to bring
this author and many other well known published authors and
artists to HCE so they can share with our students the importance
of reading, writting, and so much more. |

| Singer and Song Writer Ken Longquist visted the K4 and Kindergarteners.
Together they put together a program for their families which was
on stage at the Whitnall High School Stage! It was a lot of fun! |

| After the Winter Break almost 2/3 the school participated
in the PTO Reading Incentive Program. Every student wrote
a book review that is now kept in the HCE Library for their peers to read.
Participants were also entered in a contest to win a Pizza Party from Stone Fire Pizza!
Almost 300 books were read for the contest! Great job everyone! Keep Reading! |

also decorated a pair of mittens with their name and the name of their
favorite book. We hung them all in the Computer Lab for all to see! |

HCE PTO sponsors a HCE Spirit Wear Sale in the fall each year. Samples
are available at the HCE Open House. Proceeds help to fund the
Artists and Authors in Residence Program. |

| The PTO Spaghetti Dinner is in February, served at the
Whitnall High School Cafeteria because they have more room!
This is a great Family Social Event. Not only do we serve up
yummy spaghetti with a smile, dinner also includes salad and garlic bread.
Soda and dessert is available for sale also. |

| Thank you to all the Girl Scouts who chipped in for the "clean up"
at the Spaghetti dinner. What a great job you did! |

| In conjunction with our Spaghetti Dinner, we have the ever popular
Cake Walk. Kids and Adults can win a cake, brownies, cookies etc
if they're standing on the right spot when the music stops! |

| Opera for the Young visited our school. Many of our 3rd,4th, and 5th grade students
were able to participate in the program. This is a wonderful addition to the music
program and sponsored by the PTO. |

| The 2nd graders went on a trip to Apple Hollar to learn about Nutrition.
They sampled and helped make some yummy Apple Granola. |
|
|
|
 |
| The Annual Project Fair is held each Spring at HCE in conjunction with the PTO Ice Cream Social.
Over 70 students entered the Project Fair this year.
What a wonderful turn out fromsome very talented students. They all did a great job! |

 |
| The PTO Shamrock and Roll Dance features Irish dancers in addition to
some Rock and Roll from a local DJ complete with a light show, fun and games,
and a projection screen where the kids can see themselves! |

| Everyone loves to dress up in their Greenest outfits for the dance! |
|
|
|
 |
| This was the first year we offered facepainting at the
Sham Rock and Roll dance. It was a BIG hit! |
|
|
|
 |
| The PTO Ice Cream Social is in the Spring. This is a great Family Event.
We serve up some very yummy Root Beer Floats and Ice Cream Sundaes!
This event is in conjunction with the Project Fair. |

 |
| During the Rewards Carnival in May kids can get their face painted or get a tattoo using
the tickets they receive from the teachers and other staff for good behavior. |
|
|
|

| The Last Day Picnic is held out on the HCE Field each year, weather permitting.
It's a lot of fun and games and families are always welcomed to join in the fun.
After the picnic the kids and staff are treated to some entertainment sponsored by
by the HCE PTO. Shows in the past have included a Survival show, Magician,
Comedy show and others. |
