Elementary
Instruction at the elementary level includes 5 year old kindergarten through grade five, designed to foster individual student growth, both academically and socially. It is characterized by a balanced and developmental literacy approach to reading and writing, a product and process based mathematics, inquiry science and social studies. Technology is used as a tool integrated throughout all areas. Other programming at the elementary level includes integrated early childhood, special education, art, music, physical education, support for English Language Learners, Early Reading Empowerment (ERE), strings, orchestra, band, gifted/talented, and several after school options to help struggling students achieve academic success. All students are encouraged to work to their maximum potential with an overall objective of continuous progress through developmentally appropriate practices.
Middle School
Whitnall Middle School, grades 6 through 8, is designed to create a safe environment enlivened by a spirit of school unity and personal uniqueness where every student can learn, grow and establish positive relationships. A rigorous and challenging curriculum is provided and the teaming of teachers allows for a more comprehensive approach to addressing individual learning needs. All core academics are taught daily. In addition, the curriculum is enhanced with options in technology education, physical education, the arts which includes general music, chorus, band, orchestra, and foreign language in French and Spanish. Also offered are many extra-curricular sports and clubs to round out the total middle school program. A primary goal is to have all students excel and develop their independence as learners in preparation for high school.
High School
Whitnall High School, grades 9 through 12, is designed to meet the needs of all students through a wide variety of academic opportunities. Students receive personalized assistance from a dedicated staff in a variety of academic courses that enable them to achieve their academic and future career goals. The high school?s focus is on providing a strong academic curriculum with high expectations for all students. All core subjects are offered to meet the standard requirements for graduation. In addition, foreign language including a foreign language lab setting is offered. Honors and advanced placement courses are offered in math, social studies, science, foreign language and English. An ASC (Academic Support) Center is in place to offer additional support to better assure success for all students. The music and drama departments provide other excellent opportunities in band, orchestra, chorus and theatre. The high school has multiple pathways to assure literacy in computer technology. Many extra-curricular activities in sports, service clubs, academics, art and the performing arts are also offered.
